To protect the peace of this world, they don enchanted armor called “Cloths” that take their names and powers from their guardian constellations in the sky. So armed, the Saints do battle with their very lives at stake.

The Dark Lord Hades… the god who reigns over the Land of the Dead…

NARRATION:
Since ancient times, Hades had coveted the sun-kissed world that was Athena’s domain. He gathered about him 108 Specters born under unholy stars and led them again and again in invasion of Athena’s earth.
Page 17

At the advent of each Holy War, Hades’s true body remained where he had sealed it, in the lowest regions of the Underworld. He would choose, instead, to take the body of a human for his soul’s vessel, and with it, descend upon the world.

NARRATION:
Several years prior, there was a small town in which there lived two boys who were still but children.

Well, we ain’t so carefree that we can go around painting pictures all day.

BULLY 1:
If I lose my lunch, it’s not like I have any money to go buy more.

ALONE:
Oh. Well then…
Page 22

Would you trade the puppy to me for this jar of red paint?

BULLY 2:
He lives in the poor district too.

BULLY 2:
Another orphan—he’s half-Japanese or something Oriental.

BULLY 2:
I heard that even though he’s small, he’s ridiculously strong—and that he’s even beaten up adults!

I wonder how those two are friends? They seem like complete opposites…

Page 30

MYSTERIOUS PRIEST:
They almost look as though blood is running through their veins—as though they might spring off the canvas at any moment.

ALONE:
Who are you…?

PRIEST:
Let me introduce you. This is a holy father who comes to us from the great cathedral in the woods.

ALONE:
Master…
[ALT: Father…]
[NOTE: Since this priest is Alone’s painting teacher, he calls him “sensei,” so it’s “master” in that sense (not in the servant sense). If that’s too confusing, you may just want to go with “Father,” the normal address of respect for a priest.]

PRIEST:
He is very interested in your paintings and came specifically to ask about you.

ALONE:
The cathedral in the woods?
Page 31

ALONE (THOUGHTS):
I guess it could be true, though I’ve never seen him there before. I visit—

MYSTERIOUS PRIEST:
You visit our cathedral quite often, don’t you, Alone?

ALONE:
Yes.

MYSTERIOUS PRIEST:
It takes three hours by cart to make the journey. Do you come hoping to see the portrait of the saint that we keep preserved in the depths of our halls?

ALONE:
…Yes.

ALONE:
Although, since the cathedral isn’t often open to outsiders, I usually just get sent home.

ALONE (THOUGHTS):
The portrait of the saint is holy and once belonged to a former Pope of Rome.
Page 32

ALONE (THOUGHTS):
The painting is said to be of such wondrous beauty that the cruelest of sinners would look upon it and instantly shed tears of remorse for their crimes.

ALONE (THOUGHTS):
No one knows who painted it, either. Because of its worth, it has always been kept hidden in the depths of the cathedral.

ALONE (THOUGHTS):
These days, it has become almost legendary, a painting of salvation that brings hope to the people.

ALONE:
To look upon that painting would be my greatest dream granted.
Page 33

MYSTERIOUS PRIEST:
For sinners, it would be tears, wouldn’t it?
[ALT: A sinner would have a very different reaction…]

MYSTERIOUS PRIEST:
Yes, I’m sure now that you’d be able to paint “it.” You, who possess the purest soul in this world.

ALONE:
Huh?

ALONE:
Just now…

MYSTERIOUS PRIEST:
Speaking of which, why haven’t you added color to the eyes of the angel in the center of your painting here?

ALONE:
Oh, it’s because I haven’t quite been able to mix the shade I’m imagining for them.

ALONE:
I wanted to paint them red… like the warm red the sunset paints upon the sky.

ALONE:
I’ve tried just about every pigment of red I could think of but…
Page 33

MYSTERIOUS PRIEST:
It’s because there’s a limit to the range of colors humans can create.

MYSTERIOUS PRIEST:
After all, the colors that the human eye can see are limited to the tiny spectrum visible through light’s reflection.

MYSTERIOUS PRIEST:
You could almost say that these are but illusions—false shades that cannot compare to True Color.

ALONE:
“False shades” and…

ALONE:
…”True Color?”

MYSTERIOUS PRIEST:
Yes.

MYSTERIOUS PRIEST:
It is said that the red used in the portrait of the saint is a True Red.

MYSTERIOUS PRIEST:
After all, how could false colors ever move a human heart?

MYSTERIOUS PRIEST:
If perchance you should like to seek True Colors…
Page 34

MYSTERIOUS PRIEST:
…go to the mountains to the north of this village.

MYSTERIOUS PRIEST:
It is said that an angel who strayed out of Heaven broke his wing there, and that the blood that flowed from it created fruits and flowers of a vivid red color.

MYSTERIOUS PRIEST:
It is the deepest shade of red to be found on this earth, they say—True Red.

MYSTERIOUS PRIEST:
You would do well to take those flowers and use their True Red color in your paintings.

MYSTERIOUS PRIEST:
I am certain that it will bring forth your true ability and talent. And with that…
Page 35

MYSTERIOUS PRIEST:
…I am certain you will become able to paint pictures no human could ever paint…

It’s like the paradise told of in the Greek myths, which lies beyond the far shore of the River Lethe…

ALONE (THOUGHTS):
A place where only those permitted by the gods may enter…

ALONE:
What a beautiful place…!

ALONE (THOUGHTS):
The Elysian Fields…!
Page 37

ALONE:
These flowers and berries are such a vivid color!

ALONE:
Could this be the “True Red” that the priest was talking about…?

ALONE (THOUGHTS):
I could certainly understand how he could call such iridescence “true” color.

ALONE:
It’s a gorgeous shade, but it’s still not quite the color I wanted…

ALONE:
Well!

ALONE:
We may as well take advantage of being in such a beautiful place.

ALONE:
How about I paint your portrait with this place as a background?
Page 38

ALONE:
Whatever the priest may have said, I love the colors of the light.

ALONE:
Even if it’s plain, old red, it has so many wonderful shades. Raging red, gentle red, playful red…

ALONE:
Don’t you think it’s wonderful that through light, a color can show us different emotions and expressions just like a person’s heart can?

ALONE:
Like those two who were throwing stones at you the other day… I’m sure there are different “shades” to them as well—gentler ones.

ALONE:
Do you think you can forgive them for me?
